The Story

Background

Vast regions of India are de-linked from the main grid supply, which ensures that are dependent on DG’s (Diesel generators) primarily to meet their energy requirements, and hence a major portion of the telecom industry is forced to utilize DG’s for their need. DG’s are not only in-efficient they are noisy, expensive and polluting. They are also a big source of pilferage in the industry.

Industry is caught in a catch 22 situation as on one side the legislation requires a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions across the country, there is surge in demand of telecom coverage which sequentially raises the demand for additional remote / off grid telecom towers.

India Solar Mast (ISM) services the Indian sub-continent to provide renewable energy solutions for telecom and communication towers. We are in energy management solutions space, our interests include funding capex requirements for provision of hybrid renewable energy solutions through a monthly fixed cost model for our clients.

Based in National Capital Region, we operate in all major circles through our exclusive partners.

So, What’s The Hurry?

The below chart clearly depicts the surge in mobile data services in India. Provisioning of grids for new towers is impractical in rural areas as the costs cannot be justified. Furthermore, coal being the primary fuel for electricity production (c.90%), producing over 500 million metric tons of carbon annually is also a growing concern.

Telecom sector due to the primary energy supply condition for both poor grid and off grid locations has climbed to the number 2 position in terms of the highest C02 emitter in the country, after railways, so the time to act is now.

Growth rate of mobile phone usage stands at over 20% per annum, which indicates a larger requirement for physical network which would subsequently generate even more CO2 emissions.

India is the world’s third largest emitter of greenhouse gases and it formally joined the Paris agreement on the 2nd Oct’16.With the Paris Agreement (COP21) climate change deal effective from 4th Nov’16, there is an pressing need to address the sources of CO2 emission.

Current data implies that mobile towers emit at least 60 million metric tons of CO2 in an year and consume more than 3.5 billion liters of diesel. Typically, by installing hybrid renewable energy systems, there is a potential to consume 35% less diesel/site.
